Intrigue! Rebellion! Power! Love!I appreciate all the twisty turns of the plot. Makes you wonder about nature vs. nurture. Is royalty born or birthed?

Great But….This review contains spoilers. It was great overall, but I felt weird about how it portrayed Sirius and the king’s relationship. It felt like really messed up and I don’t feel the book did well enough at treating certain subject material such as coercive sexual acts with the complexity they deserved? They often felt fetishized which kind of ruined the emersion of the story for me. Although I thought it was interesting when Sirius was crying because he killed the king because I felt like it could have been hinting at the complexity of sexual abuse, I don’t think that was the author’s intent. I think the author fetishized the king and sirius’s relationship and wanted to portray that maybe deep down Sirius had liked him. Which kind of gave the vibe of “is it really grape if you liked it?” Like it felt like the author was trying to imply there was something there other than an exploitative relationship. Which kind of gave me the ick. But idk.
Overall it was good but again just felt like certain things could have been portrayed better. But it is sm*t so maybe Im asking for too much. But the story was just so much more complex than the average sm*t which is why I think it subconsciously made me expect more out of it. Overall really liked Sirius as a character though and the story.

awful feelingsThis review contains spoilers. It has plot. It has drama. It also leans hard into s*x slavery and Sirius having potential Stockholm syndrome after having relations with the king who he had every reason to hate. The king is a p*do also btw. Its probably a comment on the reality of SA trauma but not what I wanted from this story when I started reading. The sm*t is also mid like I wouldnt even read this to get off bc the awful context ruins it.

Good character interactions and developments, a big bad evil guy, a kingdom that thinks he's good, complicated subjects concerning kingdoms and sexuality, and people out for revenge against usurper royalty? What more could you need in an exciting story?! This one has you going from one chapter into the next with an exciting finish to it all! Oh yeah, there's a little spice scattered throughout as well ;)
