This review contains spoilers. I immediately had some guilt and fondness toward Akari, but I wasn't immeidately invested. Sad character with an unreasonably horrible backstory is not new, nor is it on its own enough to engage me. When Mikoto (fox lord) was introduced he also came off a bit too much. I would describe it as feeling like an unearned dynamic. However after a few chapters together, getting to know his reason and their behavior, I felt the relationship was earned enough and am fully invested. Akari is wholesome and cute, Mikoto is... well, also wholesome and cute in a different way. Especially his struggle against the powers of innocence. I look very much forward to seeing Akari in a situation where she has to actually stand up for herself to make things happen instead of either enduring indefinitely or being rescued.
