I'm Done With This Mom Gig: My Last Year to Live

USD 0.69 / 69pt
42-year-old Kyoko Otsuka has spent the last 13 years living life as "mom" for her rebellious daughter and soft-spoken husband. Kyoko thought her average and hectic life would continue this way until one day she is told that she only has a year left to live! Shocked by this news, Kyoko decides she wants to spend the remainder of her life "living for herself." She declares to her family, who have been spoiled and taken her for granted, that she is done being their "mom" and is going to take back her life as "Kyoko"!

    It’s interesting
This review contains spoilers. I read the 1st and 2nd chapter and is very interesting. It’s sad that her family treat her. I kind of get the daughter. Kids can be rude and ungrateful sometimes. But the husband is weird. It’s like he’s a baby.

It’s sad she start living for herself/being her person instead of just a wife/mom, when she only has 1 year to live

    Real family issues, real tears
This is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. A somewhat simple plot line, but the manga dives into a lot of real family issues and it's absolutely heart-warming. Power through your frustration the first chapter or two at her fam! LOL

    Heartfelt, sweet, inspiring
This story has been so inspiring to me! It's such a realistic look at what adjusting the mental and physical load might look like for a family, as well as wrestling with one's own purpose and mortality. I really love this story, and am so grateful to Miss Sakuma for making it! I think a lot of women would find it really relatable.

Learning not to take life for granted
This one hits hard, but it's all worth it. The heavy theme is softened by cute and funny moments, and the whole story is hugely heartwarming. It makes you stop and think: If tomorrow's not a given, then what really matters in the here and now? What dreams are worth chasing? What can you do to show your loved ones how much you care? Make sure you keep a box of tissues handy (and maybe a furry friend to cuddle) as you read!
