Reviews for Drowning in Vanilla Manga

This review contains spoilers. Nanao has serious issues. A previous commenter criticized the abusive scenes. However, I find her behavior very realistic for a victim with low self-esteem. The risk of being publicly outed is also a major problem for social status, especially in Japan, which explains why she allows herself to be black*ma!led in this way and ultimately sees only escape. In the end, she realizes what the reader can suspect from the beginning: someone loves her, even if she doesn't understand why.

This review contains spoilers. Thought it would be better but author doesn't call out the original situation as r*pe even if the mc had feelings for him. She is basically traumatized and depressed for the rest of the work. She could have handled it better and reached out for help but her overly protective nature of not wanting to cause trouble for those around her means she keeps hiding things and thinking that the abuse is her deserved punishment. She never realises that it wasn't her fault and she never seeks revenge on the stalker either. The most she tries is telling him directly to stop and then he proceedes to pull out photos of her and the manager. The guy she's in love with does listen to her story, accept her and fix it for her (so there's a little pay off when stalker gets in trouble with his dad) and they get a happily ever after but he also doesn't explicitly say it wasn't her fault or that she was coerced or involve her in his plans.

This review contains spoilers. The art is good, and I like the main pairing. Unfortunately, the good ends there. The victim blame’s herself for being s*xually a*sulted while drunk by her sister’s bf then by her own stalker/ex-bf on multiple occasions. At least there were consequences for the second one, I guess. But she still doesn’t see that what happened with her now brother-in-law also made her a victim.

I’d like to rate this higher, but I just can’t get past that.

The FL is "accidentally" r*ped by her future brother in law while he's drunk - FL doesn't seem to see it that way tho bc she's secretly in love with him. The encounter is never talked about by FL so no family or friends knows what happened.

She's then blackm*iled into a noncon "relationship" with an ex-hookup turned stalker who's in a relationship with her close friend.

She leaves to study abroad and when she gets back to Japan she's then blackm*iled by her new boss who was her previous fwb - seems like it was one sided love on his part. She never told him about her study abroad plans and just ghosted him before leaving the county. The new job is the reason she moved back to Japan in the first place but turns out it was a scheme orchestrated by ex-fwb/new boss to get FL back in his control.

I read thru all the available chapters (5 or 6 at this point) hoping it would move away from the noncon/dubcon stuff but seems it's going to be an ongoing plot device which is not for me
