I'm happy to see Yumeko try to take back her life and see herself in a positive way and loving life and her coworker pals. also interested in seeing the drama unfold. Looking forward to reading more!!
I started reading this thinking I would quit after the first chapter (with a plus-sized FL I was wary how they would treat her character), but it’s actually very sweet, and interesting!
I genuinely enjoy this story so far! Koda isn’t the type to allow herself to be brought down now that she’s experiencing the joys of what life can bring. She’s the cutest! And I can’t wait to see how her past and present lives collide.
This story involves a FL who loses her memory do to an accident and recovers with a newfound love for herself, life, and finds herself at the center of a criminal case. After 39 chapters, this manga has not strayed from the values of mind over matter and finding the best in people and difficult situations. The best part about this manga is that the FL does not discover that she needs to be skinny to love herself, for others to love her, or to be successful in life; she just needs confidence in herself and in others. The FL still faces people bashing her weight and looks, but she doesn't let that change her- she keeps plowing forward to what and who she wants. I can't wait to continue reading as more chapters release.
The FL is adorable and hilarious, her appearance is a change of pace and the love story tied into this mystery has me wanting to binge read. Thankfully new chapters are being posted so I can pick up where I left off.
I love mangas with unconventional characters. This one is great, it has comedy, romance, mistery and a great FL, who doesn’t give a dime for what other people think of her. I want to be like her.
Very rarely do you find manga featuring main characters who aren't treated as the butt of every joke, who aren't "fixed" in some way by slimming down, or whose weight is treated as something other than a fetish. Debu to Love to Ayamachi To (localized as Plus-sized Misadventures in Love) is one such rare gem!
The bulk of the humor comes from Yumeko's insane ego and vanity, but not because people think she doesn't deserve it. When she describes herself as a divine goddess and the sunshine in everyone's lives, it's not a joke to her, because the way her positive outlook improves the lives of her coworkers is very much in line with how she now sees herself, and how her coworkers come to see her.
The comic doesn't shy away from stereotypes. Yumeko works at a snack company, and enjoys eating plentiful food. But she also dresses in a way that's trendy, and the characters who fall for her do so because of her personality -- her weight isn't even a factor for or against her.
In addition to the comedy, there's a central mystery at the heart of everything, in just how Yumeko ended up with amnesia. As well as plenty of drama related to overworking, mental illness, stress, etc. And even some tropes I dislike, such as miscommunication, though they are present here, they're handled in a realistic way and aren't dragged out unnecessarily for drama.
As of this review, an anime adaptation has been announced, and there's already a live-action drama. Definitely give this one a read!
Our mc is taking on the world with such a positive outlook and very much self love. It's refreshing to read how much a situation can change with a new outlook on themselves.
